SURFACE WATER QUALITY SAMPLING, ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION

Grand Traverse Bay in winter

Are you starting a new water quality monitoring program on a nearby lake or tributary? Do you manage an ongoing water quality program?

GLEC will:

  1. ..collect lake or tributary samples and field measurements.

    • GLEC has boats and motors, a Kemmerer water sampler, chlorophyll sampler, plankton nets, ponar dredges, a Hydrolab for reading temperature, dissovled oxygen, pH and conductivity in the field, sample bottles and preservatives for collection, and GPS units for site location. Contact Pat McCool to discuss scheduling and pricing for sampling. For more information see our Ecological and Biological Surveys capabilities.

  2. ..analytical chemistry on your surface water samples.

    • GLEC has equipment and capability to run automated analysis of samples for a variety of basic nutrient and water quality parameters including phosphorus, nitrate-nitrogen, nitrite-nitrogen, total kjeldahl nitrogen (TKN) chlorophyll a, and chloride. For more in depth water quality determinations, GLEC can screen your samples for organic contaminants. Contact Robin Silva-Wilkinson or Michelle Moore for information about analytical methods and pricing. See inorganic chemistry for a list of basic water quality analysis available and see our environmental chemistry capability page for for a complete list of capabilities.

  3. ..interpret your surface water monitoring data.

    • GLEC has managed water quality monitoring projects since its beginning in 1989. Reports will highlight water quality trends to make them more understandable. We can also suggest contacts or literature resources to help you in your own data analysis. Contact Dennis McCauley for more information. See our Project Experience.
