Brief HistoryIn 1989 the Water Quality Division of Battelle's Columbus Laboratories established the Great Lakes Environmental Center (GLEC) in Traverse City, Michigan to meet the expanding environmental needs in the Great Lakes region and throughout the United
States. The environmental staff has grown to 35 environmental professionals operating laboratories in Columbus, Ohio and Traverse City, Michigan. This group draws from technical experience gained by
providing services in applied environmental sciences to government, industry, and municipalities since 1982 as Battelle's Water Quality Division. In early 1992 an agreement was reached between Battelle and Great Lakes Environnmental Center for the GLEC employees to purchase GLEC from Battelle. This mutually-agreeable transaction was finalized in late 1992, and GLEC continues to operate out of
the Traverse City and Columbus locations as a private research, development, and environmental problem solving organization. The group continues to operate under the same philosophy which had been in place for the life of the orgainzation; emphasizing
high quality, technically-challenging services in applied environmental sciences throughout the United States. GLEC has developed a significant number of technical strengths over the past decade, and here are a few of its primary Capabilities . |
