Development of Draft National Default Bioaccumulation Factors (BAFs)
(U.S. Environmental Protection Agency)

National default BAFs for selected organic chemicals are being developed based on the methodology and guidance contained in EPA's draft Federal Register notice. The project consists of conducting a literature search for the retrieval of all relevant information regarding the development of the BAFs, reviewing the retrieved data for each chemical and determining the quality of data, developing the draft baseline/default BAFs, and preparing a compendium of the draft BAFs. Using the guidelines established in the BAF methodology in the draft Technical Support Document and the guidance contained in the draft Federal Register notice, GLEC is reviewing the data for each chemical and determining the quality of data. The data is being evaluated as to how well the data fits into the established hierarchy for of four methods to calculate BAFs.
