Mitchell Creek Wetland Assessment
(Grand Traverse County, Michigan)

Using GIS modeling technology, GLEC prepared a wetlands map of the Mitchell Creek Watershed based on SPOT satellite imagery. For this project, GLEC digitally combined two multi-spectral SPOT images to produce a data set which accounted for both summer foliage and early-spring leaf-off conditions. This data set was analyzed using a supervised classification to identify wetlands in the watershed. The resulting maps were digitally compared with other wetland classifications (National Wetland Inventory and Michigan Information Resource Inventory System data) to determine the accuracy and utility of this approach for wetland mapping.
