Ecological and Biological Surveys
Ecological and Biological surveys are often conducted to support regulatory
compliance, permitting activities, and studies for conservation
and environmental organizations. GLEC has conducted biological
surveys of aquatic, wetland, and terrestrial ecosystems at the local,
state, and national level. GLEC staff are experts in aquatic ecology,
wetland ecology, vertebrate and invertebrate biology, aquatic toxicology,
environmental chemistry, botany, habitat assessment, GPS surveys,
and GIS.
GLEC fisheries biologists have extensive experience in small and
large river fisheries projects in support of Clean Water Act (CWA) and
National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documentation. GLEC
staff are also expert at conducting integrated ecological surveys based
on the Instream Flow Incremental Methodology (IFIM) that relates fish
abundance to stream flow and habitat characteristics. Our benthic
macroinvertebrate specialists have sampled and analyzed thousands
of fresh water specimens for both government and industrial clients
concerned with benthic/acquatic invertebrate community health.
GLEC owns and operates a wide array of field survey equipment including
aquatic, sediment, and biological sampling gear; seven specialized
survey boats; GPS units; off-road vehicles; and water quality
monitoring equipment.
